ST JOHN OF GOD MIDLAND PUBLIC HOSPITAL —
ELECTIVE SURGERY CANCELLATIONS
664. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the minister
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to reports from patients at
St John of God Midland Public Hospital, who have been advised their operations
in June have been cancelled due to budget restrictions.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that elective surgery operations have been cancelled in the
last fortnight of June?
(2) Can the
minister confirm that the government was approached by SJOG for additional
top-up funding to ensure surgery was able to continue for the final fortnight
of the financial year?
(3) If yes to (2), was this request
refused; and, if so, why?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) Some less
urgent elective surgery cases with bookings in June have been, or are in the
process of being, rescheduled to alternative dates for surgery.
(2) The Minister
for Health has been asked by St John of God Health Care for a meeting to
discuss the operation of Midland Public Hospital. The minister is aware the
volume of patients and activity in the first seven months will be raised with
him at this meeting.
(3) It should be
noted that all publicly funded hospitals are expected to manage demand for
their services within the funds provided to them. St John of God Midland Public
Hospital is no exception.
