DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING — FREMANTLE
RELOCATION
655. Ms S.F. McGURK to the
Minister for Finance:
I ask a supplementary question. This government refused to
replace the fragile Fremantle Traffic Bridge and all but ignored the warders'
cottages and still there is no word on relocating —
Mr P.T. Miles interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Wanneroo, I call you to order for the first time. Member for
Fremantle, you asked a question on the closing of a hospital and the loss of 1 900
jobs. If you want to ask a supplementary question, it has to follow on from
where you asked the question.
Ms S.F. McGURK : It
does, Mr Speaker.
Several members interjected.

Point of Order
Mr
W.J. JOHNSTON : Mr Speaker, you have insisted in question time today
that ministers be allowed to answer questions in silence. I would appreciate it
if we could ensure that the member for Fremantle can ask her question in
silence. Each time she has been on her feet, members on the other side have
been booing, hissing and catcalling, and this should not be considered
appropriate behaviour in Parliament.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Cannington, I note that that is not appropriate
behaviour in Parliament.
Dr
K.D. HAMES : Mr Speaker, the rules on supplementary questions are
very clear. As you said, it has to relate to the question. In the past, when
this side has had preamble before a question, we hear a massive shout —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Members for Kwinana, Armadale and Bassendean, I call you to order
now. We have just heard points of order and questions in silence. I do not
think you have to labour the point. If you are going to ask a supplementary
question, it has to be a supplementary to the primary question that you have
asked.
Questions without Notice Resumed
Ms
S.F. McGURK : Mr Speaker, my primary question was whether this government
will honour its commitment to relocate the Department of Housing and therefore
jobs to Fremantle. My supplementary question is: will this government do
anything to honour that commitment to relocate the Department of Housing to
Fremantle and will it do anything to assist the economic revitalisation of
Perth's second city?

I am not sure there is much more I can add other than that
the Department of Finance is currently undertaking analysis to see what
agencies can be decentralised to Fremantle.
