Marine heatwave
383. Hon Sophie McNeill to the minister representing
the Minister for Tourism:
Has the government
measured or conducted modelling on the impact that marine heatwaves like the
one that is currently having devastating impacts on the Western Australian
coast, including coral bleaching and the death of critical seagrass meadows,
will have on the WA tourism industry, and if yes, what were the findings and/or
the cost?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Tourism.
Tourism Western
Australia has not conducted modelling on the impact that marine heatwaves would
have on the Western Australian tourism industry. The Department of
Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has conducted extensive monitoring
of the impacts of the current heatwave conditions and will continue to do so
over the coming months to better understand potential impacts.
