CORRUPTION
AND CRIME COMMISSION - PRISON INVESTIGATIONS
721. Mr R.F. JOHNSON to the Minister for Corrective
Services:
Recently, there was a Corruption and Crime Commission
investigation at Casuarina Prison. We
are aware of that.
(1) Can the minister confirm that the CCC recently conducted
an investigation at Acacia Prison?
(2) If so, can the minister provide reasons for the
investigation?
(3) Can the minister confirm that the superintendent at
Acacia Prison was recently replaced?
(4) If that is so, can the minister provide reasons for the
replacement of the superintendent?
(5) What recommendations have emerged from the CCC
investigation?

AnswerView source ↗

(1) I can
confirm that there was an investigation by the Corruption and Crime Commission
into Acacia Prison.
(2) No, I cannot provide the member with details. I believe that I am constrained under the
act.
(3) I can
confirm that the superintendent at Acacia Prison is no longer there, and the
new superintendent will be commencing shortly.
What was the fourth question?
Mr
R.F. Johnson : It was about the
recommendations that have emerged from the CCC investigation. The minister can tell the house what the
investigation was about.
Ms
M.M. QUIRK : There were no formal
recommendations.
Mr
R.F. Johnson : You can tell us what
the recommendations are.
Ms
M.M. QUIRK : I will tell the member for Hillarys why I cannot give great detail on
this. I sought a briefing from the
CCC. It did not give me a briefing. It briefed my department, and my department
has briefed me. It is better that any
inquiries about this matter go to the CCC, which has primary carriage of the
matter.
Mr R.F. Johnson : The CCC reported back to you with
recommendations .
Ms
M.M. QUIRK : It did not; it went to
my department. I have had a briefing,
but I do not want to mislead the house. However, I can indicate that the allegations raised are of neither
corruption nor misconduct, and the matters we addressed related to some
administrative irregularities concerning compliance with the contract.
