I refer to a letter I understand was dated July 22 2002 titled ‘Complaints- Mt Charlotte Mine’ signed by Christopher Williams Acting Director General Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources addressed to Mr Trevor Meyer-Forst -
(1) Can the Minister for State Development or the Department explain why the incorrect and misleading information provided to Mr Meyer Forst was not detected and picked up when the question was asked in Parliament by Hon Tom Helm MLC concerning the matters on December 17 1998?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Can the Minister or the Department state the name of the Departmental officer(s) who prepared the briefing note or answers provided for the parliamentary question asked by Hon Tom Helm MLC on December 17 1998?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) Can the Minister or the Department explain the reasons why the letter dated October 28 1998 sent to Mr Meyer Forst was prepared by the Department?
(6) If no to (5), why not?
(7) Can the Minister state what ‘inconvenience’ does the department believe it has caused to Mr Meyer Forst?
(8) If no to (7), why not?
(9) Can the Minister state what specific measures if any has the Minister implemented since commencing under the portfolio of State Development to ensure that any departmental officers or the Director General do not provide incorrect and misleading information to the Minister or to the Parliament?

(1) No. (2) The senior manager dealing with this matter has since left the Department. (3) No, the Minister for State Development does not intend to name individual public servants who assist in preparing Ministerial responses. (4) See (3). (5) Many items of Ministerial correspondence are prepared by Departmental officers. (6) See (5). (7) No, only the recipient could advise you if the provision of incorrect information has actually caused any inconvenience. (8) See (7). (9) The Department continuously strives to improve its processes to ensure accuracy in all matters. (10) Not applicable.
