Department of the Premier and Cabinet The Hon N Griffiths provided answers to this question for the Offices of Road Safety and Crime Prevention on 12 September 2003, and the Hon E Ripper will be providing an answer that includes the Office of Native Title. The following answers therefore exclude those output areas. (1) This response includes budgets specifically assigned to public relations and community awareness activities across the Department, the provision of media advice to the Premier, Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition, and the operation of the Government Media Office The Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s projected expenditure on public relations/community awareness including salaries and related costs for the 2003-2004 financial year is $4.569 million. (2) As above (3) 53 FTEs. The Government Media Office has an approved establishment of 24 FTEs, 20 FTEs are involved in the provision of media advice to the Premier, Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition, and it is estimated that a further 9 FTEs are involved in communications, public relations/community awareness and media relations in Department of the Premier and Cabinet output areas. However, not all these officers work fulltime in communications, public relations/community awareness and media relations, and have other responsibilities. (4) Yes. (5) 20 officers have been identified as journalists, however not all Government Media Advisers would describe themselves as journalists depending upon their professional background, qualifications and experience. The Department has no positions titled “Journalist”, and its records indicate only two (2) officers have advised that they hold formal journalism qualifications. (6) The Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s projected advertising expenditure (excluding recruitment and procurement) for the 2003-2004 financial year is $459,000.
