(2) The speed limit on Leach Highway between Shelley Bridge and Bull Creek Drive was reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h on 2 March 2004 for a 12 month trial. Crash statistics show that there have been a significant number of crashes, especially rear end crashes, along Leach Highway. Concerns have also been expressed by the community about the number and speed of heavy vehicles using the Highway. The reduction in speed limit is part of a package of measures that is being introduced to improve road safety along Leach Highway including installation of overhead mast arms at five signalised intersections, installing anti-skid intersection treatments at four locations and reviewing all traffic signs along the Highway.
