Dion Barber—Legal case
920. Hon Nick Goiran to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the
Attorney General's statement delivered in the other place on 14 October 2025 in
which he said:
I want to be clear that the nature and
extent of abuse suffered by Mr Barber is not being disputed …
(1) Is the parliamentary secretary aware that this
was not previously the case?
(2) Did the Attorney General take any steps to
ensure Mr Barber was informed of that decision prior to, and other than by, the
statement to Parliament?
(3) Is the
parliamentary secretary aware that the Premier failed to take any steps to
ensure that Mr Barber was informed of the decision to preserve the
judgement award, other than through the media?
(4) Noting that responsibility for the Insurance
Commission of Western Australia falls on the Treasurer, what is the basis of
the Attorney General's intervention in the handling of this matter?
(5) Will the Attorney General be intervening in
the appeal?
