I
refer to the proposed Industrial Marine Development (Lot 1481 Neal Cove,
Exmouth) and the cumulative impact of increased boat traffic in Exmouth Gulf, and ask: (a) how
many marine access points are currently planned or have been developed on the
Exmouth Gulf; (b) will
these assess points be assessed conjointly by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA); (c) will
these access points been strategically assessed by the EPA for their collective
impact on the Humpback Whale nurseries and migration routes; and (d) how
will the EPA mitigate the impacts of marine traffic on Humpback Whales from
increased use of existing (or approved) developments?

The Minister for Environment has provided the following response.
(a) Please refer this part of the question to the responsible Minister.
(b)-(d) The proposed Industrial Marine Development on Lot 1481, Neale Cove in the Exmouth Marina received development approval from the Shire of Exmouth in July 2013 subject to conditions. The Shire of Exmouth considered the development to be consistent with the Town Planning Scheme and the Exmouth Marina Village Outline Development Plan. The Shire of Exmouth did not refer the development to the Environmental Protection Authority and hence there is no decision to be made for this development under the
Environmental Protection Act 1986
.
I am advised that the Environmental Protection Authority has not received any referral for proposals to increase marine access points and maritime traffic in Exmouth Gulf.
