I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
Procedurally, it is a requirement that all young people, upon admission to
Banksia Hill Detention Centre, are seen by the duty nurse, and a JMR1012
juvenile initial health screen is completed within 12 hours. This identifies
any young person who presents with either a physical or mental health issue.
They are then referred to the appropriate services, dependent on the issues
identified.
(2) There were
24. This figure represents only the mental health conditions identified in
people under the age of 18 serving custodial sentences as at 30 June 2019. The
term ''general health condition'' is extremely broad. If the
honourable member would like specific information on the health of prisoners,
can the question please be narrowed to identify the type of information being
sought.
