(1) Yes.
(2)(a) SouthwellPrimary School.
(2)(b) The Early Intervention Centre will open for the start of 2013 school year.
(2)(c) The Early Intervention for deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing children and their parents will be available immediately following the child's diagnosis until age five. Audiology, school psychology, and related therapy services will be available onsite. Parent training and staff professional development will also be conducted onsite.
(3) Early Intervention Centres will be located at the former PadburySenior High Schoolsite in the northern suburbs and at SouthwellPrimary Schoolin the southern suburbs. People living in suburbs to the east will be able to choose which facility they wish to attend.
The Department of Education estimates that the Padbury and Southwell facilities will cater to around 25 and 20 students respectively. Parents may also choose local schooling options where available.
(4) Not applicable.
(5) The Department of Education has been and will continue to work with the Department of Transport to ensure accessibility to transport services for children diagnosed with hearing loss.
The Public Transport Authority School Bus Service will receive applications for student transport to Padbury and determine if there is a school bus available, or alternatively, whether the parents of students will receive a conveyance allowance to assist with transport costs. There is a regular Transperth bus service to the Padbury facility with connections to the northern rail line. In circumstances where parents are unable to access the Padbury facility due to distance, the WA Institute for Deaf Education will offer specialised early intervention support for the child and parent in the home, in day care facilities, or in a local school. This will be the same support currently available for parents who are unable to access the existing Cottesloe site.
