BROWNLIE TOWERS — MAINTENANCE
1001. Hon KATE DOUST to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Housing:
I refer to Brownlie Towers in Bentley.
(1) Is the government planning to decommission the towers due to their
deterioration?
(2) If no to (1), what remediation is taking
place and what is the budget estimates to repair the building?
(3) How many units are currently vacant and how long has each of the
units been vacant?
(4) Of the vacant units, how many are vacant awaiting maintenance or
refurbishment?
(5) In relation to (4), what are the
outstanding maintenance works to be done, the costs associated with the works
and the time line for completion?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
I point out that this was tabled on
6 September so I hope it is still relevant.
(1) The long-term
future of the towers is being considered as part of the wider Bentley
regeneration project.
(2) Long-term
maintenance required to upgrade the building's plumbing systems and
associated remediation is expected to cost approximately $15 million over three
to five years.
(3) There are 164
units currently vacant to attend to remediation works and enable relocations
for logistical and safety reasons. I table the requested information.

the units are awaiting maintenance or refurbishment. With respect to costs and
