SAORI JONES — POLICE ACTIONS
I refer to the recent conviction of Mr Bradley Jones for assault causing the death of his former partner Ms Saori Jones. (1) Has the minister satisfied himself that all reasonable steps were taken by the police to locate Ms Saori Jones following notification by refuge workers at Ruah Women’s Refuge that they had serious concerns about her welfare when she failed to attend a scheduled appointment? (2) If no to (1), does the minister intend to seek advice about whether reasonable steps were taken by the police to ensure the welfare of Ms Saori Jones after they were alerted by refuge workers at Ruah Women’s Refuge that they had serious concerns about her welfare? (1)–(2) Although Mr Bradley Jones has been convicted in relation to the death of Ms Saori Jones, the full circumstances surrounding her death are the subject of an ongoing coronial investigation, at the completion of which a report will be forwarded to the State Coroner for his consideration. The coronial investigation will determine whether the actions of any person may have prevented the death of Ms Jones.
