(2) In 2000 a new application to the Natural Heritage Trust was made to develop a network that would include studies and collection of lower plants. This was unsuccessful. The WA Herbarium has a range of demands placed on it such as the Regional Herbaria Project, plant identification, taxonomic research and maintenance of the collection, and it has allocated resources to the highest priority projects, namely maintenance of the collection, taxonomic research and delivery of information through FloraBase. (3) Despite the lack of Commonwealth funding, the Regional Herbaria Project is an important function of the WA Herbarium and will continue as much as possible with volunteer and available staff resources.
