The amount owing to creditors for the Department of Justice covers services that fall under both the Attorney General (including State Solicitor and Solicitor General) and the Minister for Justice. This amount excludes amounts outstanding for Prisoner Gratuities ($362,032) and stale unpresented cheques ($104,711). The amounts owing to the creditors have been classified according to age, based on data extracted from the Department of Justice's financial management system and an apportionment of balance day adjustments which were not aged. The aging of the number of creditors is not readily available from the Department of Justice's financial management system and would require significant resources to produce. I can, however, provide this data to the Honourable Member if it is still required. The Department of Justice makes every effort to pay creditors within 30 days, however there are circumstances under which this is not possible. Examples follow, which are reflected in the figures provided. Late billing - Some creditors do not submit invoices for more than 30 days after the goods or services are supplied. The date recorded in the finance system is the date of the invoice (not the date the invoice is received) and therefore such invoices will appear as outstanding for more than 30 days even if they are paid on the day received. Accounts in dispute - Accounts are not approved for payment until any dispute is resolved.
