I refer to each agency, department and government-trading enterprise within the Minister’s portfolio of responsibilities, and I ask: (a) does the agency, department or government-trading enterprise use the services of the Media Monitoring Unit based at Dumas House; and (b) does the agency, department or government-trading enterprise use media monitoring services other than those provided by the Media Monitoring Unit: (i) if yes to (b), which company provides the media monitoring service; and (ii) if yes to (b), what is the annual cost of this service?

(i) iSentia. iSentia monitors print and internet news media as well as broadcast media and selects news items for the department based on an extensive list of over 30 key words and phrases relevant to the department (i.e. "Crown land," "pastoralists," "Wittenoom").
(ii) The Department of Lands entered into a four month contract with iSentia for media monitoring services on 1 July 2013, due to expire on 31 October 2013. The department is charged $390.90 per month for this media monitoring services, with additional costs depending on the number of news clips captured as a result of the monitoring - $2.00 per press clipping, $2.27 for metro, regional, and internet alerts and summaries.
