MANGLES BAY MARINA-BASED TOURIST PRECINCT
I refer to the minister’s answer to question on notice 3881 relating to land earmarked for the proposed Mangles Bay marina-based tourist precinct. (1) Given that the state government has acknowledged that the status of the land is unclear and that the government is obtaining legal advice, why did the government not obtain such advice and clarification before making its decision to commit $3.7 million to the project? (2) When does the government expect to receive advice from the State Solicitor’s Office on the issue? Hon WENDY DUNCAN

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The minister has provided the following answer — (1) The previous advice the government had received, from both its own officers and commonwealth government officers, was that there was no reason for the government not to proceed on the Mangles Bay marina-based tourist precinct. The commonwealth government subsequently raised additional questions that were not considered relevant at the time of the original advice. (2) The state is currently undertaking a search of relevant documentation dating back, in some cases, to 1968, and it is anticipated that this search, and the subsequent provision of advice, will be completed within the next four to six weeks.
