(b) do you consider it reasonable for a ministerial media statement to be the main or only way of communicating with country people when an opportunity such as this is provided by Government, remembering that most country newspapers come out once a week; (c) is the Minister aware that 26 October 2001 was a Friday and newspaper advertising in local Busselton papers could not have occurred any earlier than the following Wednesday and Thursday, more than half way through Seniors Week, thereby disadvantaging Busselton people who could not have otherwise found out about the Government's offer; (d) if it is found that publicity was conducted too late for most Busselton people to take advantage of the Seniors Week free ride offer, will the Government consider providing Busselton with another week of free rides on public transport but with at least two week's notice given beforehand; and (e) if not, why not?

(a)(b) The provider of the Busselton town service, South West Coach Lines was notified of the initiative on 19 October 2001. Bus drivers on the service subsequently advised passengers of the free travel initiative during the week preceding Seniors Week. In addition, local television and radio had the opportunity to publicise the information contained in the Ministerial media statement issued on 26 October 2001.
(c)-(e) Publicity on government initiatives is not limited to the print media, thus it is considered that the information which was communicated was done in an effective way. However I have asked the Department for Planning and Infrastructure to ensure that publicity for the Seniors Week free travel initiative in 2002 is more comprehensive and timely.
