I refer to the Minister’s announcement on 14 January 2004, in the
Mandurah Coastal Times
, that $800,000 would be spent on detailed design work for the Peel Deviation and that this design, planning and correct cost information will allow the State Government of the day to formerly apply for Federal Funding and ask -
(a) when was the detailed design work started;
(b) what has been achieved so far;
(c) when will the project be completed;
(d) what date is anticipated for a Federal Funding Application; and
(e) will the proposed Peel Deviation starting date of year 2010 be brought forward?

(b) The ground survey is expected to be completed in April 2004. A contract for geotechnical investigation has been awarded and will commence shortly. The completion of an Environmental Management Plan is in progress and a concept bridge design is well advanced for the Murray River crossing. (c) The work required for the project submission will be completed by November 2004. (d) A Federal funding application will be lodged in December 2004. (e) I have repeatedly told the member we are aiming for a start date of 2008.
