In relation to Mining Lease 04/81 at Quondong Point north of Broome, I ask -
(1) Given that Mining Lease 04/81 is no longer considered to be a strategic location, as it is outside the area of the State Government’s James Price Point compulsory acquisition order, will the Minister now honour the assurances of his predecessors, most notably Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLA, who in 2002 approved her Department’s proposal to grant a lease for a period of ten years, for the purpose of non-intensive agriculture, and create a special lease for the Sarubin family on the 9.68ha parcel of land, otherwise known as Mining Lease 04/81, they have occupied for the past 30 years?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Will the Minister consider offering some form of recompense to the Sarubin family, in the form of an alternative parcel of land on which to build a home, or a cash payment in recognition of more than 20 years of broken promises, contradictory advice and unmet assurances by successive Ministers for Lands and other Government Agencies?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

(1) No.
(2) I have been advised by the Department of Regional Development and Lands that the 9.68ha parcel of land subject to the former Mining Lease 04/81 is in a strategic area and in addition, the Department does not have the necessary clearances from a number of key stakeholders to allow the proposal to be progressed any further.
(3) No.
(4) There is no legal requirement to offer compensation.
