Multiplying days by guests by average visitor expenditure of $48 per day equals $21million. When the balance of their stay in the Gascoyne is added to this, this figure doubles to $42million. Much of the projected additional annual tourist expenditure would be retained in the Gascoyne Region due to the high multiplier effect from predominant local supply of raw materials and labour. Tourism expenditure creates approximately 12 jobs for every million dollars spent. By that calculation, Mauds Landing has the potential to create over 500 permanent jobs in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia. These are seen to be conservative estimates, based as they are on spending patterns in the Gascoyne in 1998. In 1998 a large number of international visitors were backpackers, whose budget-conscious style of travel brings the international spend down to an average of only $36 per day. The attraction of international air services to the region via Learmonth Airport will also open the door to direct export and development of the Region's produce examples being horticulture, meat and aquaculture. Increased interstate and international tourist visitation to the region will significantly smooth the current seasonal peaks and lows of the market. 2. As previously answered, the construction phase would be for a period of eight years, with the tourism expenditure impact growing and on-going. 3. The Western Australian Tourism Commission (Gascoyne Tourism Research Overview 2000 and the Bureau of Tourism Research) supplied the lengths of stay and average visitor expenditure figures. The estimates of occupancy and length of stay at Mauds Landing are those provided by Coral Coast Marina Developments. 4. Not to my knowledge 5. Coral Coast Marina Developments was selected as preferred developer and, having thus far met all requirements for project approval, retains that status. Should CCMD fail in the execution of the project or in satisfying all of the requirements of the proposed 'Land Development Agreement', land tenure will return to the State, whereupon the State could seek an alternative developer. In the event that no alternative developer can be secured, (ie. the land must be returned to its original bushland state), Coral Coast Marina Developments are obliged to provide a bank guarantee for that purpose.
