CITY OF JOONDALUP, EXISTENCE OF FACTIONS CONTRARY TO ROYAL COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS
I refer to a front page report on 21 June 2001 in the Joondalup community newspaper that complained about a secret meeting that involved a faction of City of Joondalup councillors that defied the recommendations of the Royal Commission into the City of Wanneroo - chapter 36.1.1(f)(i). (1) Is the minister aware that councillor John Hollywood, who attended the secret meeting, was the chairperson of the member for Joondalup’s campaign committee at the last State election? (2) In line with the recommendations of the Wanneroo royal commission that the existence of factions should not be expressly or by implication condoned, will the minister take any action against those councillors who attended the secret meeting? Mr Marlborough interjected. The SPEAKER: Member for Peel, it is disorderly for members to speak in this place unless they are seated. I call the member to order for the first time. Mrs ROBERTS

(1)-(2) I have read the front page report to which the member has referred. I do not know Mr John Hollywood, and I do not know whether he is a member of anyone’s campaign committee or whether he has any party affiliation. It is an issue about which I will seek advice from the Department of Local Government and I will take action based on that advice.
