HIH INSURANCE, REINSURANCE POLICIES STAMP DUTY
I have a supplementary question. In view of the fact that small business approached the Treasurer several weeks ago at the beginning of the second week of April and highlighted this grossly unfair double-dipping situation, which concerns not just workers compensation, why has the Government dragged its heels on the matter for so long? The SPEAKER: I know this is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition’s first supplementary question of this session. However, there should not be a preamble to a supplementary question. I invite the Deputy Leader of the Opposition to ask his supplementary question in a direct manner. Mr BARRON-SULLIVAN: Why has the Treasurer dragged his heels on this matter for so long when he has known about it since early April? Mr RIPPER

The Government is examining the issue and is conscious of the fact that taxpayers have already missed out on stamp duty as a result of the HIH Insurance collapse. If the Liberal Party would like to fix this matter, I would be delighted to receive a cheque for $800 000 in return of its donation.
