FIREARMS ACT — REVOCATION NOTICES
1563. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to disqualification notices
issued to firearm owners prior to the promulgation of the regulations for the
amended Firearms Act.
(1) Was the
minister aware of the Western Australia Police Force's intention to
issue disqualification notices prior to the promulgation of regulations before
the notices were issued?
(2) Did WAPOL
seek legal advice from the State Solicitor's Office or any other
external legal service prior to notices being issued?

(1)–(2) The Commissioner of Police and the executive of
the Western Australia Police Force are in frequent contact, providing information on a range of issues relating
to operational sensitivities pertinent to my role as the Minister for
Police. The WA Police Force has an internal legal services division with
solicitors who provide advice.
