EDUCATION —
FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT POSITIONS
606. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to page 273 of volume 1 of budget paper No 2, which
shows that the number of full-time equivalent employees in primary education in
2012–13 was 23 244, and the target for 2014–15 appears to be 23
153, which is a reduction of 0.4 per cent.
(1) Will there
be an increase in the number of primary school student enrolments in 2014–15,
even with the move of year 7s to secondary school; and, if so, by how much?
(2) What areas of primary education do these FTE reductions
impact?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) No. There
is a projected decrease in the number of primary school students of 3 910
between 2013–14 and 2014–15.
(2) FTE
reductions relate to the move of year 7 students to secondary settings in 2015.
It should be noted that FTE reductions in primary schools are more than offset
by increases in secondary schools.
