SPEECH
THERAP ISTS —
APPOINTMENTS — SOUTH WEST REGION
975. Hon ADELE FARINA to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's answer to my question on
notice 3205 that due to the changeover to a new administration system it is not
possible to extract accurate wait-time figures for speech therapists in the
south west region.
(1) How was the
average wait time of four to six weeks provided by the minister for the south
west region and for Bunbury Community Health Centre on Hudson Road calculated?
(2) What was the
time period on which the calculation was based for the south west region and
for Bunbury Community Health Centre?
(3) For the same
period, what was the longest wait time for the south west region and for
Bunbury Community Health Centre?
(4) What constitutes a high-priority
referral?
(5) In 2015 to
date, were all high-priority referrals receiving therapy services within one to
two days for the south west region and for Bunbury Community Health Centre?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(2)
The average wait time of four to six weeks reported in question on notice 3205
was based on a review of the previous three months of service delivery between
April to June 2015. It was calculated by averaging the waiting times for all
patients in that period.
(3) The longest wait time for a small number of non-urgent
referrals was four months.
(4) A
high-priority referral is for clients with impaired swallow and/or a
significant previous or current medical history that puts them at risk of
aspiration.
(5) From 1
January 2015 to 15 September 2015, all high-priority referrals have been seen
within one to two days.
