why not?

I thank the member for Midland for the question.
(1)–(3)
TJD was released from custody on 11 March 2014. As we all know, he is subject
to a very strict supervision order, with around 44 conditions placed upon that.
He is not presently on the community protection website.
Ms M.M. Quirk :
What? That is extraordinary.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
beg your pardon?
The SPEAKER : Just
carry on through the Chair, please.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
The public sex offender register is on the community protection website. TJD is
not presently on it but I have had discussions with the Commissioner of Police
about the placement of TJD on that website.
(4) As to the exact number of sex offenders who are listed on
that community —
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
The approximate number.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Midland!
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
The number of offenders on that community protection website fluctuates almost
on a daily basis because offenders will move address —
Mr W.J. Johnston :
What an embarrassment!
The SPEAKER :
Member for Cannington, I call you to order for the first time. Through the Chair,
please, minister.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
am not prepared to give an estimate of the approximate number —
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
Because you don't know. Is it 1 000, 2 000, 10 000?
The SPEAKER :
Member for Midland, I call you to order for the first time. I made a mistake
with the member for Cannington; he has been called to order for the second
time. Please address your remarks through the Chair. I do not want any more
interjections.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
am not prepared to just throw a wild number out there without it being accurate
on the day. I am prepared to find that information and provide it in a question
on notice. I do not think it is in the community's interest to make
some wild estimate in this place that may or may not be accurate. The community
protection website is all about members of the community being able to access
those offenders that police need the assistance of the community in locating.
We all know that through that tier 2 search, members of the community can
access the community protection website and see the pictures of those sex
offenders who are reportable offenders living within the proximity of the
address provided according to the driver's licence identification that
people put into that website. My most recent advice is that TJD is not presently
on that register but I expect that that will happen in the near future.
