CAPE PRESTON MINING OPERATION — ASBESTOS CONTAMINATION
I refer the minister to his answer to question without notice 409 in which he refused to table the asbestos management plan prepared for the Citic Pacific Cape Preston mining operation on the basis that he was advised, “…t here is a duty on the person who obtains the information in the exercise of the coercive power to not disclose such information except for the intended purpose.” Given that section 91 of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 states, “The Minister may cause a report prepared for the purposes of this Act by any inspector to be published at such time and in such manner as the Minister thinks appropriate”, I ask — (1) Will the minister now table the asbestos management plan that has been prepared for the Citic Pacific Cape Preston mining operation? (2) If no to (1), why not? Hon NORMAN MOORE
