1092. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to question without notice 972,
answered on Thursday, 31 August 2023, about the Western Australia Police Force
state security investigation group.
(1) What is the name of the
oversight committee referred to in part (2) of the answer?
(2) Who are the members of this oversight
committee, and what are their ranks?
(3) Once a referral
is received, what criteria is used to determine whether the referral falls
within SSIG's area of operations and will be acted upon?
(4) What is the
specific process by which this referral is assessed, a determination made and
tasks issued?
(5) Will the minister table the
operational charter of the SSIG?

The Western Australia Police Force
advise —
(1) It is the daily intelligence
briefing, or DIB.
The answers for (2) and (3) are in
tabular form.

Inspector, Security Operations Division;
Detective
Senior Sergeant, State Security Investigation Group (SSIG);
Senior
Sergeant, State Protection Group;
Members
of Fixated Threat Assessment Centre, Counter Violence Extremism; and Detective
Sergeants, SSIG.
�(3) Under
the SSIG's Charter of Responsibilities:
� Incidents which present a risk to
state and/or national security.
� Political, Racial or Ideological
motivated extremist unlawful behaviour.
� Issue Motivated Groups who conduct
activities which may lead to violence, serious criminal conduct and/or
activities prejudicial to state/national security.
� Instances involving improvised
Explosive Device suspicious substance/s and/or Chemical, Biological,
Radiological material is located.
� Instances requiring specialist
investigative support for 'post incident' terrorism
investigations.
� Instances requiring specialist
investigative support into mass casualty threats.
� Assessment and management of any
threat posed by fixated individuals in conjunction with the Fixated Threat
Assessment Centre charter.
� Project Tango – Threats
made against police.
(4) SSIG's
divisional office triage the information, and referrals are assigned to an
investigative group at the DIB for further inquiry as necessary.
(5) Refer to answer (3).
