Treasurer:
I refer to the announcement that the
Under Treasurer, Mr Michael Barnes, will be appointed as the inaugural GST ''fairness
fighter'' once he moves on from his present role.
(1) What was the
selection process for this position, and who comprised the selection panel?
(2) Can the minister please table the job description
form for this position, and confirm who drafted this form?
(3) To whom will
Mr Barnes report?
(4) Will Mr
Barnes be based in Canberra; and, if so, what additional support, allowances
and gratuities will he be entitled to?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I provide this answer on behalf of the Treasurer.
(1)–(4) Cabinet
endorsed Mr Barnes being engaged on a contract-for-service basis for the period
May 2025 to December 2026 after he ceases
his employment as Under Treasurer. Mr Barnes will report to the Treasurer and be based in Perth.
