I refer to the South West of Western Australia, one of 35 international recognised biodiversity hotspots, and one of only two in Australia, and I ask: (a) does the Minister accept that we have a
responsibility to the international community to safeguard this precious
biological heritage; (b) when was the last Biodiversity Audit for Western
Australia published; (c) why has Biodiversity Audit 2 not been completed or
published; (d) is the Minister aware of community concern that we
do not have up to date information about the state of our biodiversity
available to the public and to decision-makers; (e) will the Minister commit to completing and
publishing Biodiversity Audit 2 ; (f) if yes to (e), when will it be published; (g) if no to (e), when will it be published; (h) is the Minister aware that our biodiversity is
under great pressure from climate change, urban sprawl, feral pests, weeds and
pathogens, and that contemporary information is urgently needed about threatened
species and ecosystems in order to devise effective adaptation and mitigation
strategies; and (i) when will the Minister initiate Biodiversity Audit
3 to ensure that decision-makers and the public have accurate contemporary
information?
