I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I am just fascinated by what the member thinks that perhaps we
should have done—let the cattle die or close down the community.
(1) The
department is working with legal representatives of Mugarinya Community
Association to obtain and review sales data
as per the cost recovery agreement. The department advises that final sales
information will be available in the coming weeks.
(2) The cost
recovery agreement requires Mugarinya Community Association to pay the state 80
per cent of the total revenue generated from the sale of livestock in
connection with a muster, less reasonable expenses as determined by the state,
directly incurred in undertaking the muster.
(3) It is
estimated that around 3 000 head of cattle remain on the Yandeyarra reserve.
(4) The cost
recovery agreement requires all amounts owing to the state to be paid in full
by 30 June 2026.
