(1) Has the Government been able to make a detailed assessment of the costs and benefits of the Australian United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) to Western Australia, including the impact of jobs within the public sector?
(2) If so, what is the Government’s analysis and how have you assessed the costs and benefits?
(3) If not, do you intend to conduct such an analysis?
(4) If so, when do you expect to do so and will the findings be made public?
(5) Has the Government assessed the impact on the State Budget of the implementation of AUSFTA?
(6) If so, what is the impact and how has it been quantified.
(7) If the Government has not yet assessed the impact on the State Budget, do you intend to do so?
(8) If you do, when will the assessment be expected to be completed and will it be made public?
(9) Has the State Government sought to be reimbursed by the Commonwealth for any State Budget cost increases caused by the AUSFTA?
(10) If so, has the Commonwealth agreed?
(11) Are you able to advise if any legislation or regulations need to be enacted or amended to bring Western Australia into line with AUSFTA provisions prior to it coming into force on the target date of January 1 2005?
(12) If so, what are they?
(13) If legislation or new regulations are required by the target date, what are they, and will Western Australia be able to meet the January 1 2005 deadline?
(14) Have arrangements been made between the Commonwealth and States about consultation and/or review mechanisms for ongoing issues in AUSFTA?

(16) If not, are you pursuing arrangements and what are you seeking?
(17) The AUSFTA Rules of Origin (ROO) adopt the US format and therefore require a different assessment than ROOs in all other Australian trade agreements. Do you support this change and what is its impact on Western Australia?
(18) The AUSFTA involves changing the direction of intellectual property law in Australia. Does the proposed changes effect the cost to the State Government or its Agencies?
(19) If so, how?
(20) The Commonwealth has published a national interest statement in regard to the AUSFTA. Was the State Government consulted on this?
(21) Did you contribute to it?
(22) Do any of the elements of it represent Western Australian priorities?
(23) If so, which ones?
