(1) Will the Minister be moving to enforce a ‘no-wash zone’ to prevent erosion of the river foreshore within the non ‘open-water’ regions of the Swan Avon Canning system, and can the Minister table the research upon which her decision is based?
(2) Will the Minister be moving to introduce recreational boat operators’ licences that reflect the potential danger of these vehicles operating at high speed in public places. ie. a system equivalent to motor vehicle operator licensing?
(3) If not, will the Minister instead introduce a system whereby infringements by boat operators incur demerit penalties on the operators car-drivers licence?
(4) Will the Minister move to introduce a revegetation surcharge on boat licences, recreational and commercial, for the next five years to fund part of the revegetation costs that are currently borne by volunteer and community groups?
(5) In any boat operators licencing or training program, will the Minister be moving to ensure that boat operators are required to receive information on the effects of boat wash on river shoreline vegetation, sediments in the river, and on other river users?
(6) If not, why not?

(2) - (3) It is the Government’s intention to introduce Compulsory Competency training in accordance with the nationally agreed guidelines of 2000. The BoatSmart course deals with boat wash/wake with respect to vessel safety. By understanding how wash and wake can be minimised from a safety aspect, there will be a flow on effect whereby the level of wash and wake on the shoreline will be reduced.
