GRIFFIN COAL — ACTIVATED CARBON TECHNOLOGIES
1070. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade:
I refer to the Cook government's
extraordinary, and now confirmed, $260 million taxpayer-funded bailout of the insolvent and foreign-owned Griffin Coal and
confirmation from Griffin general manager of operations, Mr Fernandes ,
that the miner is confident in the WA coal market and talks are progressing
with three potential WA-based clients.
(1) Have the
government, its ministers, representatives, agencies, departmental staff or
ministerial staff engaged with, in any format or form, with the three potential
WA clients of Griffin Coal, one of which is apparently Activated Carbon
Technologies?
(2) If yes, in
what formats did this engagement occur, on what dates did it occur and under
what premise or direction did it occur?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade.
(1)–(2) I
refer the honourable member to standing order 104, which states that questions
must relate to matters of administration by the minister. The Minister for
State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade is not able to answer on behalf
of other ministers and their departments or agencies. If the honourable member
seeks information relating to engagements by any agencies or departments within
the minister's responsibilities, I encourage him to place a question on
notice.
