SOUTHERN PORTS AUTHORITY
— BUNBURY PORT
1540. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Ports:
I
refer to the minister's answers to my questions without notice 676 of
20 June 2023 and 1508 of 14 November 2024, both on the potential of roll-on
roll-off vehicle trade at the port of Bunbury. Her reply to the latter advised
the house —
There are no current plans to develop
roll-on roll-off handling capability at the port of Bunbury.
The minister advised the house on 20
June 2023 that she —
will be in a position to table the
reports when all the current studies are completed and findings confirmed to my
satisfaction.
(1) In relation
to the three specific concept studies undertaken by Southern Ports Authority
since 2017 investigating the suitability of Bunbury port infrastructure to
facilitate RORO vehicle trade, will the minister now table those reports?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Was the government's decision to abandon
any plans for RORO at the port of Bunbury based on the studies?
(4) If yes to (3), what aspects of
the studies were used in that determination?
(5) What is the government's
plan for RORO going forward?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(5) Studies into the future use of all WA ports,
including the port of Bunbury, are still underway, in recognition of
constantly evolving trade needs. Roll-on roll-off trades will remain at
Fremantle's inner harbour for the foreseeable future.
