POLICE OFFICERS - PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM
(1) How many police officers, full-time equivalents, are allocated to duties primarily in the public transport system? (2) Are some of these officers responsible for - (a) crime reduction programs beyond the immediate transport network - that is, in schools; and (b) investigation of offences identified after the fact, such as assaults or acts of vandalism not witnessed by police but reported by passengers or noted in security camera footage? (3) If yes to (2), how many; and, if not, who does these tasks? (4) If the number of officers allocated is planned to be varied, by how many and when? (5) Where will these officers be based? (1) There are 100 approved police officer FTEs employed in policing the rail network. (2) (a) No. However, police officers may assist in programs if required. (b) Yes. (3) (a) Not applicable. (b) An inquiry team is attached to both the police rail unit and southern rail unit to undertake investigations relating to the rail network. Additionally, any of the police officers attached to PRU and SRU can and do undertake investigations for offences. (4) Police continually review and realign police resources to ensure the most effective and responsive policing service is provided to the areas of greatest need. (5) Not applicable.
