SEXUAL ASSAULT RESOURCE CENTRE — JOONDALUP
1378. Hon LAINE McDONALD to the minister
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Sexual Assault
Resource Centre and its provision of outreach counselling services in
Joondalup.
(1) What is the average waiting time
from time of first contact with SARC to time of first appointment?
(2) Are there any
limitations as to who can access outreach counselling services—for
example, gender, age et cetera?
(3) If yes to (2), where are these
people able to access SARC outreach services if not in Joondalup?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) The average
wait time for counselling services at the Joondalup outreach centre is 48 days,
following assessment of the client's needs at the SARC emergency
service, located in Subiaco, or via the SARC counselling helpline. The SARC
emergency service operates to ensure that clients alleging assault are seen in
the first 24 hours. The SARC crisis line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
and provides assistance to all clients, including those who are on the
counselling waitlist.
(2)–(3) The
Joondalup outreach clinic is operated from the Women's Health and
Family Services centre, operated by Women's Healthworks, a non‑government
organisation. As this is a women's health centre, services at this
location are not available to men. SARC operates an outreach clinic from the
Clarkson mental health service, where there are no exclusion criteria and men
may attend.
