I refer to the recent serious accident investigation report arising from an investigation conducted by the District Inspector of Mines into an accident that occurred at the Bulong Nickel mine on 12 July 2000. (1) Will the minister table the report? (2) If not, why not? Hon KEN TRAVERS

AnswerView source ↗

I am advised by the Minister for State Development - (1) No. (2) Section 91 of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act empowers the minister to cause a report prepared for the purposes of that Act by an inspector to be published at such time and in such manner as he thinks appropriate. The minister considers that, in exercising this power, he must consider the report before making such a decision. The minister will call for a report, consider it and make a determination as to whether it should be published and, if it should, the manner and form in which it should be published. The minister will advise the member as soon as he has made his decision in relation to the report the subject of his question.
