POLICE —
LONG-TERM SICK LEAVE
238. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to the response to two
questions in relation to police officers on long-term leave for mental health
reasons. Question on notice 1591, answered on 10 October 2023, received the
response —
114 as of 7 September 2023.
Question without notice 206, asked
and answered on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, received the response, in part —
 Western Australia Police Force
cannot identify specific reasons for long-term sick leave taken by officers.
(1) Why was a response
to an identical question given for the first question but was not possible for
the second question?
(2) Are officers on long-term sick
leave included in total police officer numbers?

AnswerView source ↗

I
thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The Western
Australia Police Force advises —
(1)–(2) The
agency was able to provide a response to parliamentary question on notice 1591,
answered on 10 October 2023, as sufficient time was provided for the agency to
do a manual count of a number of sources to
verify the data. The WA Police Force was unable to provide a response to
parliamentary question without notice 206, answered on 20 March 2024,
due to the restricted time frame to undertake the same data count process.
Police officers
on long-term sick leave are included in police numbers.
It does not say this, honourable
member, but perhaps if you want to place the question on notice —
Hon Peter Collier : I know; I wish
they said that in the response. It would have been fine.
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON : I am
sorry it did not, but if the member places the question on notice, we will see
if we can get an answer for next time.
