Regarding the Community Options 100 Project for Murchison Ward patients at Graylands Hospital, I ask the Minister -
(1) What is the current bed capacity of Murchison Ward in Graylands Hospital?
(2) How many patients are currently accommodated in the Ward?
(3) How many people are on the waiting list for admission to the Ward?
(4) Is it proposed that patients who are moved into the community living units under the Project will be able to return to the Ward if their community placement is not successful?
(5) If yes to (4), how long will this option to return be available to such patients?
(6) If no to (4), what alternative arrangements will be available for such patients?
(7) Is any consideration being given to replacement facilities for Murchison Ward at Graylands Hospital?
(8) If yes to (7), what options are being considered?
(9) What, if any, priority is the Government giving to providing replacement extended care facilities for patients requiring acceptable, high standard accommodation specific to their needs?
(10) When will such replacement facilities be included in the Capital Works Program?

2. 41. One bed is a trial leave bed for patients sent home on short leave. 3. 3. 4. Yes. 5. Depending on the needs of each individual, the bed will be kept open while the individual is on trial leave and transitioning to community living. The clinical team at Murchison, with advice from the Rehabilitation Team, will decide when it is appropriate to discharge the individual from hospital. 6. Not Applicable. 7. Yes. 8. A planning and service development process has commenced to establish a best practice extended inpatient care service at Graylands Hospital. 9. The Government is committed to developing appropriate extended inpatient care services in each of the metropolitan health areas. The redevelopments are included in the draft State Mental Health Strategic Plan currently being considered by the Department of Health and the Minister for Health. 10. Capital works program funding will be sought when details of the model have been finalised and accurate costings can be undertaken. Construction of extended care accommodation is planned for 2005-06.
