With the abolition of the Department of Education Services and movement of functions to other departments, can the Minister inform the Parliament who will now be responsible for previous functions of the Department of Education Services?

Responsibility for its previous functions of: the Office of the Country High School Hostels Authority; the Office of the Public Education Endowment Trust; and the administration of teacher education scholarships have been transferred to the Department of Education. The functions of: the Office of Non-Government and International Education; and the Office of Higher Education are intended to be administered as an independent entity and at this stage the option for administration under the Curriculum Council Act 1997 is being explored. A review of Ministerial Advisory Councils, as per Recommendation 33 of the Machinery of Government Taskforce Report, is underway. Recommendations concerning the future placement of the Aboriginal Education and Training Council, the Rural and Remote Education Advisory Council and the Early Childhood Education Council are to be made as part of the review.
