BROOME HEALTH CAMPUS — NEEDLE EXCHANGE
PROGRAM
1356. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the recently announced needle exchange to be
located at Broome Health Campus.
(1) Is the
location of the needle exchange considered permanent, or is there a plan to
eventually move it further away from the nearby primary school?
(2) Will that location be open 24 hours a day?
(3) If no to (2), will needles continue to be available
outside these hours?
(4) If yes to (2), from what location?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The following has been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1) The WA
Country Health Service has met with the local primary school and the Shire of
Broome on the new program and location. An evaluation of the program will be
undertaken mid-2025.
(2) The new needle exchange program location will be
open from 9.00 am until 4.00 pm from Monday to Friday.
(3)–(4)
In line with harm reductions principles, the current needle and syringe program
will operate as it does currently out of Broome Health Campus emergency
department.
