Government Regional Officers' Housing
819. Hon Rob Horstman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Housing and Works:
I refer to recent media reports highlighting serious
issues with Government Regional Officers' Housing, including teachers
living in caravan parks and motels due to shortages, unsafe accommodation and
unresolved maintenance concerns.
(1) How many maintenance requests were lodged for GROH
properties in the 2024–25 financial year?
(2) During the 2024–25 financial year, how
many essential workers, including teachers, nurses and police officers, were
required to stay in non-standard accommodation such as hotels or caravan parks
due to GROH housing not being available?
(3) What was the total cost in the 2024–25
financial year of accommodating essential workers in such non-standard housing?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following has
been provided to me by the Minister for Housing and Works.
(1) The Department of Housing and Works advises
that it is unable to provide the requested data within the time provided.
Should the honourable member wish to place the question on notice, the minister
will endeavour to provide a response.
(2)–(3) The utilisation of GROH properties
allocated to client agencies is determined by the client agency, not the
Department of Housing and Works. The Department of Housing and Works does not
manage or coordinate non-GROH accommodation for government workers.
