741. Ms Caitlin Collins to the Minister for Health:
I
refer to the Cook Labor government's commitment to a healthcare system that is
accessible, responsive and resilient. Can the minister outline to the house how

I
thank the member for her question and ongoing interest in this area. It is an
opportunity to talk about the work that we are doing, particularly to support
women and women's community health centres right across the state. The member
for Hillarys will be aware of our commitment to provide those centres with a $14
million increase in funding, which has already been delivered in accordance
with that commitment. The first round of funding has been delivered.

Party! Let the minister respond uninterrupted.
Ms Meredith Hammat: Thank you, Speaker.
I want to talk about
women's community health centres. They do incredible work. Since becoming
minister I have been fortunate enough to visit a number of them, particularly
those in our regional areas in Kalgoorlie, Geraldton and Bunbury, to see
firsthand the important work that they are doing and the role they play in
providing health care to women that is accessible and appropriate.
We know that women
experience higher rates of chronic disease and poorer mental health. We know
that many women often face barriers to being able to access health care, but we
also know that women's health is everyone's business and improving it benefits
everybody. Women's community health centres deliver vital support to tens of
thousands of Western Australian women every year. For more than 40 years these
centres have offered essential, everyday health care through a model of care
that is holistic and extends beyond traditional models of care that we might
see.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the CEO of
the Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre, Gloria Moyle, whom many will
know. Gloria recently announced that, after an incredible 14 years running that
organisation, she is stepping down. I want to take the opportunity to thank
Gloria for her tireless advocacy on behalf of the women of Kalgoorlie–Boulder
and say that she will be very missed. The Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre
is just one of the centres benefiting from the government's increased
investment. As I said, it is a commitment that we are already delivering on, with
the first funding uplift already being provided this year. We know that when we
invest in women, our whole community benefits, and on this side of the house we
are incredibly proud of the work that we are doing to deliver better health
outcomes for the women of Western Australia.
The Speaker: The member for Geraldton, with the last
question.
