SCHOOLS —
STAFF — ALLEGED CRIMINAL CONDUCT
154. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Education:
(1) When a school
staff member is stood down from their position because of a police
investigation into allegations of criminal conduct in relation to a student or
students, what is the policy in respect of how the school or department
communicates that to the parents of the children involved and what support is
offered to the parents and children?
(2) Is the
minister confident that in the case reported yesterday of a teacher charged
with secretly filming students in a change room that parents were communicated
with by the school and/or the department at all that their children may have
been the subject of that alleged criminal conduct, and is he satisfied that
they were offered any support at all to deal with the consequences of that?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. Unfortunately, I cannot give her a response
today; I will provide it tomorrow. The reason is that we have to reconcile with
police in regard to this issue because they are involved and they did not
provide a response in time. I understand that the response will be forthcoming
tomorrow.
