METROPOLITAN TRAIN
SERVICES — CANSTAR BLUE SURVEY
651. Mr P.T. MILES to the Minister for
Transport:
Can the minister please inform the
house of Perth's outstanding result in Canstar Blue's ''City
Trains Most Satisfied Customers'' award, announced yesterday?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for his continued
hard work in his electorate, promoting public transport. For the fifth year in
succession, the Western Australian train service has been rated independently
the best train service in Australia. A lot of Western Australians look east and
often believe that they do things better than we do over here but I can tell
members that, after five years in a row, to find that Western Australia —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Bassendean, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : Western Australians rate our train service the best in
Australia. More than 6 000 people were surveyed nationwide in Canstar Blue's
2016 survey, and we received five stars in six out of eight categories. Only
one other state received five stars, in only one category; we got five stars in
six out of eight categories, and the other two had four stars. Just over half
the commuters in Perth, 53 per cent, said that taking the train is the most
convenient way to get to work, and this is what we are doing. It was fantastic
to listen to the member for Midland on the news last night actually comment
that we had failed in public transport, but the main news article on Channel
Nine, just next to that, was the response that we had the best train service in
Australia for the fifth year in a row. We have seen the extension of the
Joondalup line out to Butler. We have seen a 30 per cent increase in our rail
fleet. We begin construction of the Forrestfield–Airport Link in the
electorates of the members for Belmont and Forrestfield in a couple of months.
We have started construction of the Aubin Grove train station. We are doing a considerable
amount for the people of Western Australia. When you hop on a train in Western Australia,
one of the things you will note is how clean they are. We have a ''cleanskins''
policy; we tackle the graffiti immediately. We have 1 600 CCTV cameras within
our train network. We are making it safer, we are making it more convenient and
we are providing the best rail service in Australia. That is something we are
proud of and will continue to do.
