PAEDOPHILE —
CHILDCARE CENTRE — NORTH FREMANTLE
707. Hon SUE
ELLERY to the Minister for Education:
I
refer to the answer the minister gave the house yesterday that he became aware
only yesterday morning that a convicted paedophile was living close to a childcare
facility in North Fremantle. Given the report on The West Australian online by Tim Clarke on Monday this week that
media queries about Ryan Clegg's living arrangements were put to the
minister's office last week, that the Premier told the Assembly
yesterday that he was aware on Friday that there was a sex offender living in a
residential area close to a school and that media queries were made to the
government media office on Friday about this issue, does the minister stand by
the answer he gave yesterday?

AnswerView source ↗

I
thank the honourable member for this question. Yes, I resolutely stand by my
answer. The first I heard about it was yesterday in the media. This morning, I was
informed that a media inquiry had come to my office on Friday afternoon. That
media inquiry was forwarded to the Minister for Police. I knew nothing about
it. The first I heard about it was yesterday. I stand by exactly what I said in
question time yesterday.
