a) DPIRD processed the following number of new applications to register as an owner of livestock:
Year
Number
2022-23
452
2023-24
1,293
2024-25
972
b) The length of time taken to process a PICs application varies depending on a number of factors including whether a request is for a new application or a renewal, transfer or update; whether complete information is provided at the time of application or further information from the applicant is required; and whether the request is for a single applicant and property or is a more complex matter involving multiple land tenures or ownership structures.
Renewals and urgent matters are prioritised to ensure existing PICs do not expire and livestock producers can continue to move and sell livestock, which can impact the timelines the other applications.
