VIOLENT SEX OFFENDERS — PAROLE
1223. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I
refer to the minister's answers to my questions without notice in
August and September regarding return to prison warrants.
(1) Does the
minister recall informing the house that as at 31 August 2023 there were 47
outstanding prison warrants, with 41 of them
being either in prison in other jurisdictions or located outside Western Australia?
(2) Does the minister recall informing the house that
of those remaining six warrants, three were still outstanding as at 12
September 2023 and had been for 48, 55 and 2 147 days respectively?
(3) Does the
minister recall informing the house that the return to prison warrant that had
been outstanding for 2 147 days as at 12 September 2023 was for an offender who
is in custody in New South Wales?
(4) Which of
these three questions are inaccurate and require a prompt correction and
apology to the house?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(4) The
Western Australia Police Force advise that return to prison warrants are
relevant to circumstances at the point in time of reporting. Further, specific
locations for an offender subject to an RTP warrant is dynamic due to actions
taken by individuals to avoid apprehension.
